BHI’s Radiation Protection teams identified an opportunity for enhanced safety and efficiency provided by remote reviewing of emergent issues without shutting down plant systems or workers receiving unnecessary dose. The team recommended installing a radiation-tolerant camera, designed for monitoring inside containment. The project was the first of its kind in the US, and test results optimized placement, seismic and structural pedestal design, and integration with BHI’s RP video system. The successful implementation resulted in additional camera installations for improved safety and reliability and has become a standard efficiency measure in nuclear plants.
