India’s 2nd largest single site refinery operating 6 DCU’s had poor installation of 1,970sf of structural weld metal overlay resulting in 134 linear feet of deep cracking including a through-wall crack in the drum that brought production to a halt. An on-site vendor referred BHI, and we removed the existing overlay, repaired cracks in the base metal and replaced with a BHI temper-bead automated welding process. Our evident quality and superior production resulted in an increase in scope of 56%, and a return to production 2 weeks early.
