DUKE Covid Policy

To: Duke Energy Nuclear Outage Contractors

Subject: Duke Energy Nuclear Refuel Outage COVID-19 In-Processing Protocol for Contractors

Thank you for being a valued partner with Duke Energy. Please immediately share this communication with appropriate managers of your business supporting Duke Energy. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Supply Chain sourcing specialists.

Beginning August 23, 2021, a negative COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test result is required for all refueling outage and on-line contractors prior to entry into our King’s Mountain/Central In-Processing facility. Duke Energy will reimburse the contractor companies for the cost of the COVID-19 test up to a cap of $150 per contractor employee.

  • The COVID-19 test must occur within 7 days of arrival at the King’s Mountain/Central In-Processing
  • To be recognized, the provided test result must be an FDA/CDC approved PCR test. The PCR test is what the CDC considers the “gold standard” for COVID-19 tests. There are currently other types of tests available, but they are not as accurate as the PCR test at detecting a currently infected
  • The 7-day time period considers receipt of test results and travel time. During this 7-day time period it is important to practice good COVID-19 behaviors such as social distancing, wearing masks, and frequent hand This will help decrease the possibility of contracting the virus.
  • A COVID-19 vaccination will NOT be recognized as a substitute for a negative COVID-19 test
  • If specialty refueling outage in-processing is to occur on-location at a generation site, contact the general manager of Nuclear Corporate Operations to evaluate approach to COVID-19
  • All contractors are required to wear masks and maintain social distance as part of our COVID-19 safety protocols unless authorized by Duke Energy leadership with alternate controls. Social distance is defined as greater than 6 feet between individuals.

Given our goal to ensure the safety of our staff and contractor partners, we are requiring pre-arrival COVID-19 testing and post-arrival compliance with established COVID-19 safety protocols. By requiring a negative COVID- 19 test, our contractor partners join Duke Energy generation teammates virus-free. Once in-processed and at a site, we are confident in our COVID-19 protocols to protect against and mitigate virus spread.

We expect our contractors (Direct Contractors) to share this information with their management, and subcontractor management.

Sincerely,

Matthew Palasek

Vice President Sourcing and Accounts Payable Duke Energy
