Watts Bar Nuclear Plant has two units and is located about 60 miles from both Chattanooga and Knoxville.

The site is owned and operated by Tennessee Valley Authority.  The units were placed into service in 1996 and 2016 and generate 2,332 MW.

Vendor/Visitor Vehicle Access Requirements for Nuclear Facilities
YOU ARE ENTERING A FEDERAL NUCLEAR FACILITY
THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET FOR ENTRY
Vehicle Use
Vehicle use inside of the Protected Area is limited to only vehicles that are searched, identified, and authorized to complete a plant function or are required as part of a plant emergency.
Search Requirements
All personnel, vehicles, and materials will be searched prior to allowing entry into the protected area. These searches will be accomplished through the use of technology/equipment, along with visual and physical searches, to ensure all items are identified before granting access to the Protected Area. The purpose of this search is to detect and deny the entry of contraband or prohibited items into the site’s Protected Area in accordance with 10 CFR 73.55.
Contraband:
Unauthorized firearms, explosives, incendiaries, or other dangerous materials (e.g., disease causing agents), which are capable of causing acts of sabotage against a licensed facility or licensed radioactive material, as specified under 42 U.S.C. 2284. For licensees that possess or conduct activities involving classified national security information or classified Restricted Data (RD) as defined in § 95.5 of this chapter, contraband also means unauthorized electronic devices or unauthorized electronic media that are capable of facilitating acts of espionage; unauthorized communication, transmission, disclosure, or receipt of RD; or tampering with RD, pursuant to 18 U.S.C. 793 or 42 U.S.C. 2274–2276, respectively. Contraband items are banned from a licensee’s protected area, vital area, materials access area, or controlled access area.
Prohibited Items:
Alcoholic beverages, items with an alcohol by volume (ABV) content >0.5%, any illicit/illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia.
When an attempt to introduce firearms, explosives, incendiary devices, or other items which could be used to commit radiological sabotage has occurred or is suspected, action will be taken by the site to ensure that the suspect individuals, vehicles, and materials are denied access. TVA Police will be notified, and an investigation will take place.
WARNING: Except as provided in 42 U.S. Code § 2278a, whoever knowingly possesses or causes to be a present a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a federal facility, or attempts to do so, may be fined, imprisoned, or both.
